Give and Take

Author:

Sherry Marshall

"Give, and it shall be given to you" appears in‬‭ Luke 6:38‬‭ .

The full verse reads,

"Give, and it‬ will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over,‬ will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you".‬

‭The verse alludes to the dry measuring methods used by the Jews. They would press and‬ shake dry measures to make them hold more, and then heap them up until they‬‭ overflowed.‬

‭The verse means that God will give you more than you give.‬

‭Some people just naturally give and we call them givers.‬ Some people naturally receive, and some maybe even expect . . . to receive,‬ and sometimes we call them takers.‬ It is not right or wrong, good or bad, we were all made to give and receive.‬‭ The problem comes when it gets out of balance.‬ Some givers often struggle to receive, and the giving can even become a way to hide.‬

‭If this is you, ask God to heal your “receiver”, heal your heart.‬ For some, if you notice you “expect” from others, ask God to show you areas where you‬ may be taking too much and how you can start to give to others.‬

‭Have you heard “To give is to receive”?‬ The idea behind this quote is that giving to others is a way of receiving in return, whether‬ that be love, strength, or joy.‬

‭Balance is healthy and so good, because God says be a cheerful giver and to be a giver,‬ someone has to be the receiver, so do not rob joy from the one who gives.‬
